GENERT – Michael Genert beloved husband of Irene Genert of Bassano,  passed away suddenly on September  15th, 2002 at the age of 78 years.  Born in Walsh, Alberta on May 15th,  1924 Mike received his education  there. He joined the Canadian Armed  Forces in 1944 serving until 1946. On  November 6th, 1948 Mike and Irene  Link were married in Brooks and  resided and farmed in the Rainier  area. Mike also worked as a  heavy equipment operator in the  Rosemary and Calgary area. He  retired to Bassano in 1987, where  he had resided since. Mike loved  his family and gardening. He will  be remembered for his inventions,  sense of humor and for his famous  hunting trips. Mike is predeceased by  his parents, 3 sisters and 3 brothers.  He is also survived by his loving  family, daughter Joanne Genert of Bassano; son Jack and his wife Gay of  Vilna, Alberta; 2 grandchildren Connie Genert of Calgary and Christopher  (Barbara) Genert of Vilna; 2 great grandchildren Paige and Quinton Genert  of Vilna; 4 sisters; 2 brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral  services were held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 19th from Smith  Memorial Chapel. Rev. George Edmonds officiated Active Pallbearers  were Stan Genert, Tom Genert, Wayne Johnson, Ken Link. Brian Link and  Carter Link. Interment followed in the Field of Honor, Brooks Cemetery.  In memory of Mike, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to  the charity of one’s choice.
