GILROY – Ruth Veta Gilroy of Brooks, Alberta died on May 5, 1984 at the age of 76.
She was born at Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on July 1, 1907 and came west with her parents in the same year to homestead in the Tennessee district in the Cowley-Pincher Creek area.
She moved to Lethbridge in 1923 and was employed in a millinery shop learning to design women’s hats. She also worked for the Metropolitan Store and was transferred with them to Edmonton in 1930 as manageress in ladies wear. She later worked in the ladies wear for the T. Eaton Co., in Edmonton and married in Edmonton on May 4, 1932.
She moved to Brooks in 1949 and was co-owner and manageress of Carol’s Fashions until retiring in 1976.
While in Lethbridge and Edmonton she was a member of the First Baptist Church and sang in the church choirs and taught Sunday school and was a member of the ladies groups.
She was a member of the 0.0.R.P. and the Rebekkah Lodges in Brooks.
She was predeceased by an infant daughter.
Surviving are her husband, Charlie of Brooks; a son, Gordon and his wife, Elfie of Calgary; two daughters, Carol Anderson and her husband, Ron of Brooks and Lorraine Woltman and her husband, Gerry; an adopted daughter, Hazel and her son, George of Edmonton; six granddaughters; a grandson; and two great-granddaughters. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 10 at 2:00 p. m. with Pastor K. O. Grambo officiating. Interment will follow in the Brooks Cemetery. Pallbearers are George Bunn, Dick Schindeler, Stan Cragg, Ron Doucet, Bill Miyauchi and Garry Tanigami.
