Gongal, Millie & LouisGONGAL – Millie Gongal of Brooks, Alberta died on April 7, 1989 in the Holy Cross Hopsital in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 67 years.

She was born at Zabidov, Czechoslovakia on April 20, 1921 and came to Canada in 1924 to Blairmore, Alberta. She married there on April 13, 1940 and with her husband moved to the Duchess area in 1945 where they farmed until retiring to Brooks in 1973.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the C.W.L. and the Christophers. She was also the secretary of the Sunshine Club Pioneer Villa No. 4 and a member of the Handicraft Guild.

She was predeceased by her husband Louis on January 25, 1986.

Surviving are a daughter Cecile and her husband Marven Hellmer of Tilley, a son Karl and his wife Wendy of Duchess, nine grandchildren and four great­ grandchildren, a brother Peter (Mona) Zubersky of Lethbridge, two sisters, Veronica (John) Proc of Lethbridge and Anne (Bob) Lean of Calgary, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Prayer service was held on Monday, April 10 at 8 p.m. in Smith Memorial Chapel with fratemal services by St. Mary’s C.W.L.

Funeral mass was held on Tuesday, April 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Reverend John Petravicius celebrant. Interment following in the Brooks Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Rick Hellmer, Kevin Hellmer, Randy Hellmer, Robbie Lean, Pat Lean and Jerry Lean.

If friends desire memorial donations may be made to the Brooks Health Centre Memorial Fund for the Children’s Ward.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
