She was born at Hawksdale, Alberta and resided in the Square Deal and Cessford districts all her life.
She attended Olds College for two years and married on August 9, 1950 at Square Deal.
She loved sports and was a member of the Cessford Curling Club.
She was predeceased by an infant daughter Betty Jean in 1955, her sister Gwen Spence in 1986 and Gwen’s husband John in 1988.
Surviving are three daughters – Donna Laughlin and her husband Rick of Youngstown, Lorie Blagen and her husband Dale of Youngstown and Jody Griffith of Lethbridge; two sons, Glen and his wife Connie of Cessford and Bill also of Cessford; nine grandchildren; her mother Daisy Hansen of Hanna; her brother David Hansen of Cessford; four sisters, Elsie Munroe of Sunnynook, Barbara Cheney of Hanna, Georgia Spence of Alix and Virginia Collins of Brooks as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, June 17 at 2 p.m. in Brooks United Church with the Reverend Jim Hamilton officiating. Interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were Doug and Dorothy Williams, Chuck and Kathy Andrus, Cecil and Vivian Kennedy and Kermit and Dorothy Solberg. Active pall bearers were Del Griffith, Lance Griffith, Kelly Spence, Keith Griffith, Ray Munro and Dean Hansen.
