Kovas, Steve & MargaretKOVACS – Steve Kovacs died on September 22, 1990 in the Brooks Health Centre at the age of 90 years.

He was born at Kis, Harsagy, Hungary and came to Canada in 1926 to the Melville district in Saskatchewan and worked on various farms and later moved to Raymond, Alberta and was employed at the sugar beet factory. In the early 1930s he purchased a farm in the Tilley district and farmed there until retiring to Brooks.

Surviving are his wife Margaret of Brooks, a son Steve (Mildred) of Hay River, N.W.T., two daughters, Mrs. Mary Wolfer and Mrs. Rose Bothi of Brooks, 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Prayer service was held on Monday, September 24 at 7 p.m. at Smith’s Memorial Chapel and funeral mass was celebrated on Tuesday, September 25 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Keith Sorge celebrant. Interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery.

Pallbearers were AI Carlisle, Douglas Kovatch, Steven Kipta, Donald Wolfer, Steven Bothi and Ernest Bothi.

KOVACS – Margaret (Margit)  Kovacs, beloved wife of the late  Steve Kovacs, passed away on  Saturday, July 5th, 2003 at the age  of 98 years. She is survived by her  son Steve Kovatch and his wife  Mildred of Hay River, N.W.T. She is  also survived by 19 grandchildren,  33 great grandchildren, and two  great-great grandchildren. She was  predeceased by her daughters Mary  (Donald) Wolfer and Rose (Steve)  Bothi, and great grandson Jason  Robbins. Margaret Molnar was born  November 18th, 1904 in Hungary  and married Steve Kovacs there in  1924. She came to Canada in 1927  with their young son Steve. They  settled first in the Raymond area  before moving to the Tilley district  where Steve and Margaret farmed  until retiring to Brooks in 1970.  Margaret will be best remembered for her hard work, love of gardening  and for her respect for the simple things in life. She had a keen interest  in world affairs and in keeping up to date on the activities of her entire  family. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 :00 on Thursday, July 10th  from St Mary’s Catholic Church in Brooks. The Very Reverend Bryar  Frank celebrant. Honorary Pallbearers are the staff at both Newbrook  Lodge and Long Term Care. Active Pallbearers are Kenny Kovatch  Donald Wolfer, Steve Kipta, Al Carlisle, Steve Hoffert and Steve Bothi. Internment will follow at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Margaret  memorial tributes may be made to the Brooks and District Health  Foundation, Bag 300, Brooks T1 R 1B3.
