Swanson, LaRoyce

SWANSON – LaRoyce Swanson (nee Brockelsby) passed away in Brooks on June 15th, 1998 at the age of 82 years.

Born in Vail, Iowa on September 2nd, 1915 LaRoyce attended school in Iowa. She married Ray Swanson on March 4th, 1934 coming to Scandia in 1936 to farm in the area. They moved to Brooks in 1965 and she had resided here since.

LaRoyce worked for the Provincial Government as a clerk with the Water Resources branch and later for the Federal Government with Health of Animals branch. LaRoyce was active in the Trinity Lutheran Church and a Charter Member of the Prairie Pioneers. She was also a volunteer for several community services including Meals on Wheels for many years. She always enjoyed her family, her friends and playing games. In LaRoyce’s words “Remember me with smiles and laughter.”

She was predeceased by her husband Ray in 1981, son Duane and 2 granddaughters Laura and Debbie in 1973, mother Myrtle in 1968, father James in 1984 and brother Leonard in 1982.

LaRoyce is survived by her loving children, daughters Violetta Link and her husband Alex of Hanna and Leola Link of Dorintosh, Saskatchewan; sons Gordon and his wife Pat of Kaleden, British Columbia and Rick and his wife Connie of Brooks; 17 grandchildren; 29 great­ grandchildren; 2 sisters Dorothy (Owen) Hibbs of Parker, Colorado and Nellie (Jim) Hrdlicka of Fairmont Hot Springs; sister-in-law Ethel Brockelsby of Kelowna and numerous nieces and nephews. Juneral Services will be held on Friday, June 19th at 2:00 p.m. Rev. John Theiss officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are all her dear friends. Active pallbearers are Terry Swanson, Kevin Swanson, Brian Link, Tim Link, Neil Swanson and Randy Jones.

Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery. In remembrance of LaRoyce memorial tributes may be made to the Newbrook Lodge, Bag 370, Brooks, Alberta T1R OG5. Arrangements in care of Smith Funeral Home. Telephone 362-4636.
