HARGRAVE – Dr. Percival Duncan Hargrave of Brooks, Alberta passed away on March 27, 1992 at the age of 82 years.
Duncan Hargrave was born in Edmonton and graduated from the University of Alberta in 1932. His work for western Canadian horticulture was widely recognized. He was the superintendent of the Brooks Horticultural Research Station from 1936 to his retirement in 1969. Numerous honours were bestowed on Duncan in later years including the Centennial Medal in 1967 and an Honourary Doctoral degree from the University of Calgary in 1987.
He especially valued his long standing affiliation with the Olds College of Agriculture and the University of London (Wye College). He dedicated his life to horticulture in western Canada and to many community projects and services. His great joy was to see things grow and flourish.
He was also a charter member of the Brooks Kinsmen Club and a member of the K40 Club.
He leaves his loving wife Helen, daughter Jean Hancock (Peter) of St. Albert, and son Douglas (Bev) of Brooks. He will be missed by his grandchildren David, Jennifer, Susan, Tannis, Sheri, their spouses and two great-grandsons, Neal and Joshua. Also surviving are two brothers, Bill in Salmon Arm and Douglas in Edmonton.
Duncan Hargrave will also be sorely missed by many friends and relatives in Canada, England and the U.S.A.
A memorial service will be held at the Brooks United Church on Thursday, April 2 at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Wes Hulton and the Reverend Susan Lukey officiating. Cremation.
