SAWATZKY – George Sawatzky passed away suddenly at his residence in Brooks on Wednesday, October 3rd, 1990 at the age of 67 years.

He was born on May 23, 1923 in Kalinova, Russia, and immigrated with his parents to Provost, Alberta in 1926. In 1930, the family moved to Rosemary, Alberta to farm, where George resided until his retirement in 1989.

He was a Life Member of the Brooks Elks Lodge 77 and also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion 63.

In his younger years he was an avid curler and in the last few years enjoyed bowling, fishing, travelling and reading.

He was predeceased by his father Gerhardt in May 1984, his mother Agathe in Sept. 1990, and his granddaughter Lori Leanne Baksa in December 1975.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Toots (Mary), his daughters Gory (Randy} Baksa, Cris (Ferron) Kenmore all of Brooks, and one son Clinton (Jill) Stewart of Calgary. He was a very special Grandpa to Terra (Norm) Berg, Shannon Baksa, Toni Baksa, Miranda Kenmore and Tyrel Kenmore. Also, one great-­grandson Jasper Berg. Four brothers, Alex (Pearl) from Mission, B.C., Dan (Jacquie) from Edmonton, Henry from Brooks, and Walter from Victoria, B.C., two sisters Agnes Jensen from Millicent, Hilda (Glen) Obleman from Chestermere Lake, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held on Saturday, October 6, 1990 at 1:30 p.m. in the Brooks Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Rosemary Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jake Enns, Star Livingston, Lewis Wright, Gordon Wright, George Penner and Henry Braul.
